Harrington, Oboh, Alcorn underscore positive Colonels outing at Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Highlighted by a program record from Chelsea Harrington in the long jump along with a pair of season-best performances out of Omo Oboh and Hailey Alcorn, the Nicholls State University track & field program successfully concluded the team's pre-conference slate at the Samford Indoor Invitational, securing three top ten placements and acclimating to the future site of the Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships throughout Friday's slew of events at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

"We're right where we want to be knowing our trip back to Birmingham for the Championship is in just two weeks," head track & field coach Stefanie Slekis said. "In addition to everyone continuing to improve and Chelsea's big mark, I loved the energy our team had throughout the meet. This was a competitive invitational at a great venue and our ladies really took advantage of the atmosphere and pumping each other up before and during performances. I'm proud of how they worked together and I'm excited to have our distance women join for the SLC Indoor Championships after we finish up the Cross Country Championships next Sunday."

Harrington, who previously held third on the all-time list as little as 11 months ago, has now managed to snap the school's indoor mark twice since then, topping her own leap from the SLC Indoor Championships last March by an inch-and-a-half. Overall, the junior's new record serves as the second-best long jump showing of her career, trailing only her school second-best 19-03.5 vault on the outdoor circuit.
