HAMMOND, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team was handed an 82-63 loss by a red-hot shooting Southeastern Louisiana squad on Saturday evening at the University Center.
Despite having three players score in double figures –
Chelsea Cain,
Adrian Mann, and
Anna McKendree, Nicholls (7-11, 6-5 SLC) could not slow down Southeastern (7-6, 6-4 SLC), which shot 60 percent for the game and 10 of 17 from 3-point range.
Nicholls fell behind by 10 points in the second quarter but clawed back to tie it at 29 before heading into the break down 35-32. But in the third, the Lady Lions used three 3-pointers by Morgan Carrier to fuel a 12-0 run. SLU never looked back as it snapped the Colonels' six-game winning streak in the series.
Cain had another strong outing, finishing with 17 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double, while also adding two steals. Mann continued to excel against Southeastern, following up her previous 20- and 19-point games versus the Lady Lions with 17 and three steals. McKendree scored 14 in the loss and also had three steals.
Carrier totaled 20 points for SLU, connecting on 5 of 7 from 3-point range. Hailey Giaratano led all scorers with 22 points.
