NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Nicholls State University men's basketball program (14-6, 11-2 SLC) looks to maintain the team's four-game win streak at in-state rival New Orleans (6-13, 5-6 SLC) in yet-another season sweep opportunity, squaring off with the Privateers in the latter half of a doubleheader with women's basketball on Saturday, Feb. 27 at Lakefront Arena, tip slated for approximately 6 p.m.

Earlier this year, the Red & Gray ran the Privateers out of Stopher in an 86-62 blowout win, the largest margin of victory (24 points) for the Colonels in Southland play this season. Notably, senior Ryghe Lyons anchored the Red & Gray on both ends of the court, securing the first-ever double-double of his career behind a 23-point, 13-board performance. Fellow senior Ty Gordon added 18 points of his own while freshman Pierce Spencer contributed the only other double-digit mark of the game, tacking on 17 points.

Following the quick roadtrip over the New Orleans, the Colonels wrap up the team's home schedule with a Monday evening clash against Northwestern State, making up a previously-postponed contest with the Demons at 6 p.m. at Stopher Gym.

- This year's roster is highlighted by 11 newcomers, including: six transfers from fellow Division I collegiate programs, two who joined the ranks via JUCO programs and another trio who signed on directly from high school. Of the six DI transfers, three -- redshirt senior G Jaylen Fornes (UNC-Wilmington) along with redshirt juniors G Isaac Johnson (Western Illinois) and F Najee Garvin (Charlotte) -- are of specific note, as each enter the season with one full year with the program after sitting out 2019-20 due to NCAA transfer restrictions.
- This season's depth chart features seven players from across the state of Louisiana, a pair from Little Rock, Ark., and one from each of the following: North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Minnesota and Texas.
- The Colonels were projected to finish fourth in the Southland Conference, per the league's preseason poll. Notably, Nicholls had yet to notch a single-digit ranking since the 2014-15 poll, in which the Red & Gray pulled off an eighth-place finish.
- Nicholls returns two of last season's five starters: senior G Kevin Johnson and redshirt senior G Andre Jones.
