Colonels knock off Privateers, 66-59

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team earned its second consecutive road win with a 66-59 victory against New Orleans on Saturday in Lakefront Arena.

Nicholls (9-13, 8-7 SLC) will look to notch its 10th win of the season in its regular season finale Wednesday at home against McNeese.

The Colonels overcame a slow start against UNO after scoring only six points in the first quarter. But the offensive output improved in each quarter, highlighted by a 27-point fourth.

In what was a closely contested battle throughout, Nicholls never trailed the rest of the way when Anna McKendree hit a 3-pointer for a 44-41 advantage. McKendree was clutch again for the Colonels, scoring a team-high 16 points to go along with nine rebounds and seven steals.

New Orleans was able to tie it at 48-48 on an Ericca Richardson 3-pointer midway through the quarter, but Nicholls answered with the next five points. Chelsea Cain, who had 15 points, scored in the paint before Adrian Mann knocked home a 3-ball for a five-point lead. The Colonels kept it a two-possession game the rest of the way to earn their eighth league win.

Mann also reached double figures with 12 points, and Terris McKay finished with 11. McKay had a big 3-pointer to end the third period, giving Nicholls a one-point edge.

UNO's Dionjhae Thomas paced all scorers with 17 points.
