NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Kennedy Hebert went 3-for-3 and had the go-ahead RBI in the fifth inning, but Stephen F. Austin plated six runs in the sixth to earn a series sweep against the Nicholls State University softball team on Saturday at the SFA Softball Field.

With the loss, Nicholls dropped its sixth consecutive game and remained winless in conference (6-11, 0-6 SLC). The Colonels will look to bounce back at home next weekend in a series against UIW.

Unlike in Friday's opening loss to SFA (13-8, 6-0 SLC), the Colonels were able to jump on pitcher Kassidy Wilbur with three runs in the first inning. Hebert got things started with an RBI double before Samantha Gwiazda drove in a pair on a single.

But SFA responded with three runs in the bottom half against Jordan Moon. Gaby Garcia brought in the first run with a double, then another scored on an error before the final coming home on a fielder's choice.

Both pitchers kept the offenses off the board through the next three innings, but a leadoff error in the fifth allowed Nicholls to take a 4-3 lead. With two down and a runner on second, Hebert ripped a single to left to break the 3-all tie.

After working a scoreless fifth, Moon ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth. SFA tied the game on a groundout before Garcia put them ahead with an RBI single. Two more runs scored on a double, then Emily Danehower came in to pitch and surrendered a 2-run base hit. 

Wilbur retired the Colonels in order in the seventh to close out the series sweep.

Moon finished with seven earned runs allowed on nine hits in 5.2 innings. Wilbur struck out five and gave up six hits in the complete game effort.
