SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Nicholls State University women's soccer program (0-13-0, 0-8-0 SLC) wrapped up a three-game road trek with back-to-back matchups across state lines, initially falling to Abilene Christian (8-5-1, 4-3-0 SLC) by a 3-0 margin on Friday evening before enduring a 6-0 defeat against UIW (5-3-2, 4-2-2 SLC) later on Sunday.
KEY STORYLINES & STATISTICS
-- In Friday's matchup with the Wildcats, the Red & Gray uncharacteristically surrendered three first half goals (9', 13' & 34') before completely shutting down the ACU attack in the second period, giving up zero scores across the final 56 minutes of play. Meanwhile, the Nicholls defense looked back in usual form during the opening period of Sunday's contest versus the Cardinals, holding UIW to a lone penalty kick goal at 41'; the second half, however, saw the hosts find their rhythm on offense, scoring quickly at the 58th and 59th minutes before tacking on another three to close out the victory.
-- Offensively, the Colonels picked up most of their production from sophomore
Karina Gonzalez, who finished with two of the team's four shots-on-goal for the weekend set.
-- In the net, freshman
Reagan Carter handled a majority of the goalkeeping duties throughout both games, collecting 11 total saves while surrendering five total goals. Fellow freshman
Valeria Vargas Leon took over for portions of each contest, giving up four goals overall.
