THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's tennis team competed in its final conference match of the season, Sunday morning, against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Though the Colonels lost 6-1, Simona Maksimovic earned her fifth singles win in Southland play against one of the top players in the league.
Maksimovic competed in court 1 against Mariya Shumeika, who had a 17-2 record heading into the match. Maksimovic fell short in the first set 4-6, but came back to win the second and tiebreaker sets 6-1, 12-10. 
 
Carla Bouygues also competed in a tiebreaker set in her game against Camille Townsend. She won the first set 6-3, but fell in the second 3-6. Bouygues then lost the final tiebreaker set, 10-5.
In doubles competition, 
Morgan Forshag and 
Nuria Martin Lopez were trailing 4-5, when Islanders won courts 1 and 3 both 6-2. 
The women's record dropped to 4-16, 1-10 SLC, and their final match of the season is Tuesday, April 13 against Loyola New Orleans, at 2 p.m. in the Colonel Tennis Complex.
