NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Late Thursday afternoon, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the organization's 2021 Team Academic Award recipients, tabbing the Nicholls State University women's track & field squad to the prestigious honor roll. The Colonels managed to post a cumulative 3.07 GPA, joining 253 other NCAA Division I programs on the recipient list for the second consecutive year.
With just nine of the Southland Conference's 13 programs represented, Nicholls head track & field coach
Stefanie Slekis made a point of noting just how difficult maintaining academic success this past year was for any student-athlete, and praised her group for another stellar performance in the classroom.
"I am extremely proud of our women's track & field team for all of their continued hard work in the classroom," Slekis said. "I know COVID has presented challenges for students across the country with more online or individual components of their courses. I am proud that our women have persevered through their individual challenges and continued to develop and learn in their courses. This award recognizes teams for a cumulative GPA and I am proud of our women for continually pushing themselves not just for each semester, but for their entire time at Nicholls to take pride in their coursework."
