THIBODAUX, La. -- The Nicholls State University volleyball team was defeated by UIW in three sets on Saturday inside Stopher Gym.
In the first set, the Cardinals jumped out to a quick 8-4 lead before utilizing two separate three-point scoring runs to run away with the set, 25-16. UIW went on a six-point run to swing the momentum and win the second set, 25-19.
The third set saw both teams go on scoring runs. UIW used a six-point swing to make the score 8-6, before going on a three-point run to make the count 11-7. Nicholls used a three-point run to tie the set at 14. The teams traded three-point runs again to make the score 21 apiece before the Cardinals scored four out of the set's final five points to win it 25-22.
The Red & Gray offense was led by sophomore outside hitter
Trinity Vinzant who finished the contest with a match-high 12 kills while hitting .357 from the field. She also added eight digs to stay active defensively. Senior outside hitter
Devon Bright stuffed the stat sheet with eight kills, eight digs, and two service aces.

S'mara Riley tallied five kills and two block assists. Senior setter
Lilly Bivens contributed with 16 assists and nine digs while sophomore libero
Kadie Becnel also finished the match with nine digs.
