THIBODAUX, La. -- The Nicholls State University volleyball team (4-15, 1-6 SLC) was defeated by Texas A&M University-Commerce in four sets on Saturday.

The first set was a back-and-forth affair until the Colonels used a four-point run to win the set 25-22. In the second set, the score was 12-12 before the Lions generated a six-point run that swung the momentum to help them win the set 25-15.

The third set was another back-and-forth thriller that the Lions won 29-27. In the fourth set, A&M-Commerce executed three different three-point scoring runs and won the set 25-22 to pick up the 3-1 victory.

The Red & Gray offense featured four double-digit scorers. Senior outside hitter Katie Jones led the way with 16 kills while hitting .469. Other outside hitters remained active with sophomore Trinity Vinzant finishing the contest with 13 kills, while senior Devon Bright registered 11, and freshman outside hitter Mackenzie Pryor added 10. The Colonel attack was paced nicely by senior setter Lilly Bivens and sophomore Kendall Battistella who tallied 24 assists apiece.

The Colonels' defense was anchored by sophomore libero Kadie Becnel who finished the match with 22 digs, six assists, and 2 service aces. Vinzant and Bright added 16 and 14 digs to earn their fifth and sixth double-doubles of the season, respectively. Overall, the team had seven solo blocks and 10 block assists. Bright had 2 solo blocks while Pryor and Jones each had one. Three middle blockers recorded one solo block junior Jhayla Bolden, senior S'mara Riley, and freshman Paris Dixon. Pryor and Dixon had three block assists apiece.

The Colonels will look to get back on track next week with matches at Northwestern State (Oct. 13) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Oct.15).
