Colonels VB Ready for Texas Two-Step

THIBODAUX, La. -- The Nicholls State University volleyball team will cross state lines to take on Southland Conference foes Lamar and Texas A&M-Commerce on Tuesday, Nov. 1, and Thursday, Nov. 3. 

NICHOLLS COURT (4-21, 1-12 SLC):
The Colonels' offense features a trio of outside hitters that have recorded more than 200 kills this season. Seniors Katie Jones and Devon Bright lead the way with 230 and 215, while sophomore Trinity Vinzant has tallied 204. Vinzant and Bright have added 31 and 30 service aces to the Nicholls scoring. The Red & Gray attack is paced by a trio of setters that have claimed 200 or more assists. Senior Lilly Bivens leads the way with 493, while freshman Taylor Heeb and sophomore Kendall Battistella have racked up 209 and 207, respectively.

The Colonel defense is anchored by sophomore libero Kadie Becnel who has 341 digs. Vinzant and Bright remain active claiming 273 and 200 digs. Senior middle blocker S'mara Riley has 98 blocks thus far, while freshman middle blocker Paris Dixon and Jones have 65 and 59.

LAMAR COURT (8-16, 2-11 SLC):
The Cardinals' offense is led by outside hitters senior Kaitlyn Gil and sophomore Paige Dugan, who has recorded 315 kills and 283 kills up to this point in the season. They add 31 and 28 service aces to the scoring, while sophomore setter London Hatch has 30. Hatch paces the offense with 931 assists.

Defensively, Lamar has four individuals with at least 200 digs. Junior libero Giselle Santini leads the way with 272, followed by Gil (257), Hatch (232), and Dugan (217). The Lamar defense features a pair of players that have accumulated at least 75 blocks. Junior middle blockers Tytiana Johnson and Wiktoria Warpechowska have tallied 82 and 79 blocks.

TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE COURT (10-17, 6-7 SLC):
The Lions have an offense that features two players that have at least 230 kills this season. Junior outside hitter Maddy Rashford leads the way with 254, while sophomore outside hitter Fetty Reese has tallied 239. Defensive specialist Lyric Herbert has added 41 service aces to the fold. The attack is paced by senior setter Celeste Vela who has registered 862 assists.

Defensively, the unit is led by a trio of players that have claimed at least 200 digs. Herbert leads the charge with 432, while Vela and junior defensive specialist Ashley Pennington add 229 and 212, respectively. Senior middle blocker Taryn Cast has recorded a team-high 100 blocks this season while Vela and junior middle blocker Yasmin Figueriedo add 69 and 60.
