THIBODAUX, La. – Freshman
Lexi Alexander racked up a game-high 26 points and 11 boards as the Nicholls State University women's basketball team defeated Mobile 70-61 inside Stopher Gym on Thursday.
At the break, the Colonels were up 29-25 behind eight steals and 13 forced turnovers that generated 12 points for Nicholls. The Red & Gray hit 12 out of 14 shots from the charity stripe and made nine field goals.
Nicholls remained active and aggressive and finished the contest with 20 points from 19 forced turnovers and 12 takeaways. The Colonels ended the game shooting 21-28 from the free throw line and 23-53 from the field.
Nicholls held the largest lead of the game (12) in the fourth quarter and dominated the bench scoring 42-24. The Colonels also generated more points in the paint (40-36) and second chance buckets (17-13).
Two Colonels alongside Alexander finished with double figures. Sophomore forward
Deonna Brister finished with 11 points and five rebounds, while her classmate guard
Amelia Sandie had 10 points and four boards.
In her Nicholls debut, freshman
Kayla Keshmeshian scored nine points and hit the Colonels' lone three-point field goal.
Mobile hit 23 field goals on 20 assists and was led by three double-figure scorers. MacKenzie White finished with 14, while Carlee Wyatt and Erica Jones added 12 apiece. Jones also led the team with nine rebounds.
