THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's basketball team will play its first home game of the season Tuesday night (Nov. 22), hosting Jarvis Christian at 7 p.m. on Broussard Court at Stopher Gymnasium.
Nicholls will be looking for its first victory after tough matchups on the road, falling at No. 17 Arizona, Wyoming, and BYU. The Colonels led at the break Saturday night at BYU, 40-37, but were unable to notch the road win.
Through three games,
Micah Thomas has paced the offense at 17.7 points while shooting an impressive 68.8 percent from the field. Thomas has also been dialed in from long range, making 8 of 10 3-pointers. Also averaging double figures, fellow newcomer
Marek Nelson (12.3 ppg) led the Colonels with 15 points at BYU.
Latrell Jones and
Caleb Huffman are third on the team in scoring at 9.7 ppg.
On defense, the Colonels have been one of the tops in the nation this season in steals as they are tied for second in Division I with 13.0 per game.
Caleb Huffman is tied for third with 11 total, averaging 3.7 per game.
The Colonels are 3-1 in home openers under fifth-year head coach
Austin Claunch. Nicholls earned wins over Mississippi College and Paul Quinn in the first two seasons before falling to Sam Houston State in 2021. Last year, the Colonels opened their home slate with a 120-52 over Carver College.
Jarvis Christian competes at the NAIA level and brings a 2-1 record to Thibodaux. The Bulldogs opened the season with a loss at Dillard (77-60) before earning an 81-78 overtime win against Wiley and a 77-69 victory versus Rust.
Jakari Jackson leads a trio of Bulldogs in double figures, averaging 13.3 points per game. Jakobe Dill and James Phillip Russell are tied for second on the team at 12.7.

Nicholls heads back out west for the third time to take part in the Las Vegas Holiday Classic. Friday's opening game against UC Irvine is scheduled for 6 p.m. central.
