Kyla Hamilton has been named Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week as announced by the league's office on Monday.
Hamilton stuffed the stat sheet during the Colonels' three-game slate that included a road game at Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday, November 22, and then two games at the 35th annual Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic, where they battled host Southern Miss and had a rematch against MVSU on November 25 and 26 in Hattiesburg.
The Westlake, La. native averaged 15.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per game during the action-packed week. She also remained efficient, shooting 47.2 percent from the field on 36 field goal attempts and shot 8-15 (53.3%) from behind the arc.
Hamilton's best performance of the week came in an 84-74 victory over MVSU on Saturday. Playing in all 40 minutes, she poured in 20 points, snagged a career-high 9 boards, dished out five assists, and had two steals. She shot 46 percent from the field, hit three 3-pointers, and knocked down five of eight shots from the charity stripe.
In the game against Southern Miss, she spearheaded the Red & Gray offense, finishing the contest with three 3 triples to net a season-high 21 points. Additionally, she finished with a team-high seven rebounds and five assists. The guard was 9-16 (53.6%) from the field and 50 percent from long range.
For her two games in Hattiesburg, where she averaged 20.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 5.0 assists, she was named to the All-Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic Team.
In Tuesday's matchup with the Devilettes, Hamilton hit both of her shots from distance to finish with six points, she also collected six boards and registered four helpers.
Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school's sports information director. Voting for one's own athlete is not permitted. A student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots to earn an honorable mention.
