FRISCO, Texas - For the second time this season, Nicholls State University guard
Latrell Jones has been named Southland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week as the league announced Monday afternoon its weekly honors.
A native of New Orleans, Jones notched his second weekly award this season after being named player of the week to close out November.
Jones led Nicholls last week by averaging 16.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in the Colonels' two games which started with a league-opening win over Southeastern on Thursday. He finished with 17 points against the Lions to go along with six rebounds and three steals. He followed up with a team-high 15 points and eight boards at No. 17 Mississippi State as the Colonels nearly knocked off the Bulldogs in a 68-66 loss.
In his second season with the Colonels, Jones has had an outstanding start to his campaign by ranking third in the Southland with 15.8 points per game while having the fifth-best shooting percentage at 47.2 percent. He has scored in double figures in nine of the 11 games, including three 20-point outings.

Nicholls will play its final home game of 2022 tonight (Monday, Dec. 19) against Trinity Baptist. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
