Colonels Visit Texas Tech Wednesday Night

THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's basketball team returns to the hardwood following a week off, heading on the road for a nonconference matchup at Texas Tech on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Tipoff at United Supermarkets Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The game will air live on ESPN+ and can be listened to on ESPN Radio New Orleans 100.3 FM.

Nicholls carries a 3-4 overall record into the matchup after winning its last two games. The Colonels closed out the Las Vegas Holiday Classic with a 72-70 victory over San Diego before cruising to a 115-50 win over Champion Christian last Tuesday.

Ranked fifth in the Southland Conference in scoring, Latrell Jones (15.1 ppg) heads into the contest with two consecutive 20-plus point outings. He scored a career-high 26 points in the win in Las Vegas over San Diego, then contributed with 23 points in 21 minutes against Champion. He leads a trio of Colonels in double figures, joined by Micah Thomas (13.7) and Caleb Huffman (12.0). In Tuesday's win over Champion, Huffman registered his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Colonels are aiming for their first win in the all-time series against Texas Tech (5-2), which has won all five previous meetings. The last time the two schools met was in 2016 where Texas Tech earned an 89-46 victory.

The Red Raiders have won 25 consecutive home games which includes a 73-49 victory over Southland member Northwestern State in their season opener. Nicholls will be the third Louisiana program to try to snap the streak this season as LA Tech fell short in a 64-55 loss.

Texas Tech also has a balanced scoring attack with four players averaging double figures. Kevin Obanor leads the way at 13.1 ppg and is closely followed by Daniel Batcho's 12.9 average. On defense, Tech is only allowing 59.6 points per game which ranks 26th best in the nation. Nicholls has scored at least 70 points in three of its five games against DI opponents while the Red Raiders have surrendered more than 70 twice -- both resulting in losses in the Maui Invitational.

Texas Tech is the first of two Big XII programs on the schedule this month for Nicholls as the Colonels will end the year at Baylor. The Red and Gray are 0-12 all-time against teams currently in the conference after falling to the Bears last season and at TCU.
