THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's tennis team continued its strong start to the spring season, defeating Sam Houston by the count of 5-2 Saturday afternoon at the Colonel Tennis Complex.
With the win, Nicholls improved to 4-1 overall while Sam Houston slipped to 2-2. The victory snapped a six-match losing streak in the series against the former conference rival.
The Colonels took two out of the three doubles matches to jump out to a 1-0 advantage. All three courts were decided by a 6-2 score, with

Constanza Cruz pairing up for Colonel victories. Bouygeus and Lopez each improved to 4-0 in doubles.
In singles play, Nicholls secured the team victory with wins on the top 3 courts.
Simona Maksimovic and
Jessie Mount won in straight sets on lines 1 and 3, while
Sophia Sara Safarova outlasted Isidora Zivkovic in a three-set battle.
Morgan Forshag added her fourth singles win with a 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) victory against Lusine Chobanyan at No. 6. Bouygues and Lopez each suffered a three-set loss for their first singles setbacks of the season.
