THIBODAUX, La. - The duo of
Ty Gordon and
Latrell Jones teamed up for 53 points for the Nicholls State University men's basketball team, leading the Colonels to a seventh consecutive victory as Nicholls defeated HBU, 84-70, Saturday afternoon on Broussard Court at Stopher Gymnasium.
With the win, the Colonels (18-9, 8-2 SLC) closed out their homestand with a 4-0 record to improve to 10-1 in Thibodaux for the season. HBU dropped to 8-15 and 4-6 in conference after suffering a sixth-straight loss to the Red and Gray.
Gordon and Jones were outstanding once again, shooting a combined 18 of 31 from the field. After totaling 47 points in Thursday's win over McNeese, Gordon netted 28 points while Jones poured in 25.
Manny Littles joined the tandem in double figures with 12 points.
Gordon drained 5 of 10 3-pointers in the victory, including one that helped fuel a 9-0 run in the first half. Nicholls went into the break with a 41-26 lead.
In the second period, the advantage stayed around double figures and was as much as 18. The Huskies outscored Nicholls in the half as both offenses shot 57 percent after the intermission. The Colonels shot 53 percent for the game, marking the second straight outing with a 50-percent clip.
Darius Lee notched a double-double for HBU, totaling 20 points and 10 rebounds.
UP NEXT
Nicholls will play its final three road contests of the season, taking on Northwestern State and Southeastern next week. The matchup against the Demons on Thursday is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
