Colonel Men's Basketball looks to stay hot heading into homestand

THIBODAUX, La. - Winners of three straight, the Nicholls State University men's basketball team will look to keep its hot-streak going with its next four games on Broussard Court in Stopher Gymnasium, starting Thursday night against UIW. Tipoff will be 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game.

Nicholls (14-9, 4-2 SLC) currently holds the longest winning streak in the Southland after notching road victories at McNeese, HBU and UIW. Approaching the halfway mark of the league schedule, the Colonels sit in second place and a game behind New Orleans, which fell from the undefeated ranks after a road loss at UIW Saturday.

The last outing for Colonels came on Thursday at UIW where they held on for a 63-60 win. Nicholls led by as much as 21 in the second half before the Cardinals stormed back late. UIW carried the momentum to snatch a victory against UNO two days later for its first conference win.

Devante Carter scored 14 points against UIW for the Red and Gray and is one of three Colonels averaging 15.0 points per game in league play. Ty Gordon and Pierce Spencer are also averaging 15 while Manny Littles is at 10.3 points and 8.5 rebounds.

UIW is led by RJ Glasper at 17.0 points per game in conference. Glasper had 13 points against the Colonels before exploding for 34 against New Orleans, helped by seven 3-pointers.

Nicholls will also have a rematch against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday (Feb. 12). The Colonels and Islanders (16-7, 3-3 SLC) squared off in the Southland Tip-Off Event, with Nicholls picking up an 84-75 victory. Spencer scored 20 points on the night, hitting five 3-pointers to pace four Colonels in double figures.

The Islanders have lost two straight games after falling 79-70 at home against New Orleans last Thursday. Their last win came on the road at Southeastern, 86-71.

Isaac Mushila heads the AMCC offense in conference at 16.5 points per game, which ranks fifth in the league. He scored 15 points in the previous meeting against the Colonels.
