SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Nicholls State University men's tennis team split its two-match San Antonio trip, falling 5-2 at UIW in Southland play Thursday before edging nationally-ranked Division III Trinity, 5-4, on Friday.
Nicholls (8-8, 0-2 SLC) received another strong outing in singles by
Antoine Martin-Thiriat, the league's reigning player of the week, as he won both of his matches. He won at on line 4 against UIW before moving up two spots to win at No. 2 versus the Tigers.
The Colonels dropped two of three doubles matches against Trinity (13-6) but was able to claim four victories in singles. After Trinity won at No. 2 via retirement for a 2-0 lead, Nicholls won the next four. Thiriat started the string of victories with
Prasanna Pravin Bagade and
Nicola Wehrle following with straight-set wins.
Antonio Sasso then clinched the team victory with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 5.
Against UIW, the Cardinals won the two completed doubles matches and three of the five singles lines.
Omar Morsy joined Martin-Thiriat in the win column with a 6-3, 6-3 victory on the top line.

Nicholls will head to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a match against the Islanders on Sunday. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
