HUMBLE, Texas - The Nicholls State University women's track team totaled 32 points at the 2022 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships, with
Elsa Rijpstra and
Omo Oboh each notching podium finishes.
While the men's squad did not have an athlete earn a medal, the Colonels seven points as a team.
Oboh set a school record on each day for the 100m hurdles, first clocking a 13.64 in the prelims. On Sunday, she bested her own record with a 13.54 to take second place in the 100m hurdles. HBU's Kaitlin Smith, who earned the championships' MVP, edged Oboh with a 13.51.
Oboh also ran in the 4x100m relay as she,
Kiara Bethley,
Amiya Matthews and
Keiondra Narcisse took fourth with a 46.95.
Rijpstra earned third place in the 10,000m with a 37:44.10. She earned a medal in both outdoor and indoor this spring after she took gold in the 5000m at the SLC Indoor Championships. For the outdoor 5000m, Rijpstra ran a 18:39.62 for a sixth-place finish.
Matthews finished fourth in the heptathlon with a 4,741, but set a new personal record with the third-best mark for the high jump in school history with a 1.63m
For the men's team,
Amari Godette continued his strong spring with a fourth place finish in the 200m, clocking a 21.25. He qualified with a 21.10 in the prelims.
