THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's soccer team will begin Year 2 under Robert Podeyn on Friday, welcoming three teams to the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex for the Lester Bimah Battle on the Bayou (Aug. 18-20). 

Nicholls kicks off the tournament with a 5 p.m. match Friday against Southern, then takes on Tarleton at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. North Dakota State faces Tarleton on Friday at 7:30 p.m. before an 11 a.m. match on Sunday against Southern. 

The Colonels began their campaign at the new complex with a strong outing in their scrimmage last Wednesday. With a total of 18 newcomers on the roster, the entire squad saw significant minutes on the pitch in the three-period scrimmage. 

Nicholls looks to bounce back against Southern after dropping the last meeting to the Lady Jaguars, 2-1, in 2019. The Red and Gray had won the previous 12 meetings against Southern, dating back to 2005.  The Colonels and Tarleton will square off for the first time with the Texans in their first season of competition.

UP NEXT
Following the opening weekend, Nicholls hits the road for a three-match trip out west. The Colonels will fly out to Hawaii for two matches, Aug. 25 vs. Hawaii Pacific and Aug. 28 vs. Hawaii, then head to California for a Aug. 30 match against UC Irvine.
