Colonel Soccer Opens Road League Slate Friday Night at Southeastern

THIBODAUX, La. - Winners of two of its last three, the Nicholls State University women's soccer team will make the short trip to Hammond to face Southeastern Friday night at Strawberry Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the match will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Nicholls (2-5-1, 0-1 SLC) opened league play at home Friday and fell to McNeese, 4-0. Two days later, Southeastern (3-2, 1-0 SLC) went to Lake Charles and defeated the Cowgirls, 3-2. McNeese is one of three common opponents so far for the Colonels and Lady Lions. Nicholls defeated Jackson State, 1-0, but dropped a 2-1 decision in the opener to Southern, while SLU picked up a 3-0 victory over JSU and took down the Lady Jaguars, 3-2.

In addition to looking for their first Southland win since a 2018 victory over Stephen F. Austin, the Colonels are also aiming for just their second win ever against Southeastern. The lone triumph came in Strawberry Stadium in 2014 behind four goals by Spencer Valdespino. Since then, the Lady Lions have won the last eight including 4-0 and 1-0 victories last fall.

Offensively, Nicholls is led by freshman Jemma Catherwood whose two goals have been game-winners. Catherwood has just four shots on the season but came through late with goals against Jackson State and Alcorn. Koryn Barrett has the most shots (9) for the Colonels and scored the second goal in Tuesday's win vs. Alcorn. Along with having a goal on the season, Rami Mitchell picked up two assists in the last match.

Megan Cook and Reagan Carter each have a victory as goalkeeper. Carter had a shutout against JSU while Cook notched the win versus the Lady Braves.

SLU has found the back of the net nine times this season, with Emma Jones accounting for two of the goals. Olivia Griffin holds a 3-1 record as goalkeeper and has 12 saves.
