SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- The Nicholls State University volleyball team (4-9) utilized four-point scoring runs in each set to win 25-19, 25-23, and 25-23 to begin Southland Conference play with a 3-0 victory over UIW in San Antonio, Texas on Thursday. For Nicholls, this is the first SLC opening victory since 2012.
The Red & Gray attack was spearheaded by freshman outside hitter
Mackenzie Pryor, who registered the first double-double of her career with 12 kills and 10 digs. Also active for the offense were outside hitters senior
Katie Jones and sophomore
Trinity Vinzant who recorded 10 and eight kills, respectively. Senior outside hitter
Devon Bright and freshman middle blocker
Paris Dixon combined for 11 kills. The offense was set up by senior
Lilly Bivens and freshman
Taylor Heeb who tallied 21 and 17 assists that helped the Colonels post their highest hitting percentage of the season (.261).
Defensively, Vinzant recorded a game-high 17 digs, and sophomore libero
Kadie Becnel followed with 12. Bivens also chipped in with seven. Â Additionally, the Colonels tallied nine blocks, with Dixon leading the team with four block assists, while Bright, Jones, and junior middle blocker
Jhayla Bolden each had three. Pryor and senior middle blocker
S'mara Riley recorded two and one block assists. Jones also had one solo block.
UP NEXT
The Colonels look to keep the momentum rolling as they make the short drive to Houston to face HCU on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 1:00 p.m.
