THIBODAUX, La. -- The Nicholls State University cross country teams combined for eight top 20 performances including three top ten finishes at the LSU Invitational on Friday, Sept. 23.

Leading the way for the men and posting a sixth-place time of 18:40.40 in the men's 6k was junior Randy Canady. Sophomore Luke Futey finished the course in 18:58.30 to claim ninth, while senior Dustin Worley placed 14th with a time of 19:44.20. Additionally, senior Preston Whisenhunt (20:10), and freshman Kevin Boden (20:29.70) rounded out the group of Colonels in the top 20 by placing 16th and 19th, respectively.

In the women's race, senior Elsa Rijpstra finished the 5k course with a time of 18:13.90 to place eighth. Also recording a sub-19-minute time was junior Elania Hansen, who ran the course in 18:49.20 to place 13th. The third Colonel to cross the finish line was sophomore Megan Nevlud, who registered a time of 19:01.30 to claim 15th place.

Overall, both the men's and women's teams placed second out of eight teams with 47 and 67 points, respectively.

The Red & Gray will have a few weeks off before they cross state lines for the first time, heading to College Station, Texas to compete in the Arturo Barrios Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M University, on Saturday, Oct. 15.
