SAN ANTONIO, Texas - For the second time in the last three road games, the Nicholls State University women's basketball team held a lead at halftime but the Colonels were unable to end their losing streak with a 70-62 loss at UIW Saturday afternoon at the McDermott Center.
Nicholls (4-16, 1-8 SLC) led 32-29 at the intermission and held off UIW (8-11, 3-6 SLC) for most of the third before the Cardinals ended the quarter on an 11-2 run for a 49-45 advantage. The Colonels threatened several times to retake the lead but a 6-0 UIW spurt midway through the fourth ultimately put the game away.

Lexi Alexander notched a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Kayla Keshmeshian came off the bench for seven points and five rebounds.
The Colonels had a solid day shooting on offense, finishing at 42 percent from the field and 9 of 19 from 3-point range, but 19 turnovers led to a significant advantage for UIW. The Cardinals scored 23 points following the miscues while Nicholls accounted for six points off of UIW's 13 turnovers. Nicholls had seven turnovers alone in the third quarter that helped UIW take the lead for good.
UIW was paced by Destiny Terrell and Nina De Leon Negron who combined for 48 points. Terrell scored 25 on 12-13 from the field and added 10 rebounds while Negron finished with 23 points.
