Colonels Clipped by Islanders on Senior Day

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University volleyball team fell 3-0 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on senior day inside Stopher Gym on Saturday afternoon.
 
In the first set, the Islanders go off to a quick 7-2 start and coasted to a 25-14 win after taking the final five points of the set.
 
The Colonels responded by starting strong in the second frame and creating a 5-3 advantage. After that, the Islanders went on a seven-point flurry build a five-point lead (10-5) and eventually win set, 25-18.
 
The third frame was like the first as the teams went back and forth for most of the action. The set was tied at 15 and then the Islanders went on a four-point surge to go up 19-15 and never looked back and won the set 25-19.
 
Overall, the Colonels hit .174 compared to the Islanders' .500 mark.
 
Sophomore middle blocker Paris Dixon led the Colonel attack with seven kills while hitting .385 for the contest.
 
Senior middle blocker Jhayla Bolden registered five kills and two blocks. Freshmen outside hitters Gracie Campbell, Deniz Akgul, and Autumn Perry recordeded five kills apiece.
 
The Colonels' balanced attack was paced by freshman Berra Soyler and junior Kendall Battistella who had 14 and 11 assists, respectively.
 
Prior to the match, senior middle blocker Jhayla Bolden was honored for her effort and accomplishments as a Colonel.

The Red & Gray will begin the month of November across state line battling Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday Nov. 2 and Lamar on Saturday, Nov. 4.
