NEW ORLEANS, La – The Nicholls State University volleyball team won the first set but fell 3-1 to UNO at the Human Performance Center on Thursday night.
The Colonels got off to a great start after going on a 7-0 run that helped them build a 15-6 advantage. Nicholls was able to keep their distance and take the set 25-17 behind a .412 hitting percentage.
In the second frame, Nicholls hit .050 and allowed UNO to go on two different four-point scoring runs to build a 20-12 lead. After that, Nicholls made it interesting, but fell 19-25.
In the third stanza the Colonels hit .300 but didn't have an answer for the Privateers offense that produced 16 kills, five service aces, and hit .400.
The fourth set saw UNO take a 17-10 advantage and never look back and run away with the set, 25-18 to win the match.
The Colonel attack was led by freshman outside hitter
Gracie Campbell who finished with 11 kills and 10 digs to claim her first career double-double.
The Red & Gray also got solid performances from junior outside hitter
Trinity Vinzant and sophomore outside hitter
Mackenzie Pryor who had nine kills apiece.
Vinzant was one of three individuals with double figure digs leading the charge with 14 followed by junior defensive specialist
Rae Leano who had 11.
The Colonels had 10 blocks with senior
Jhayla Bolden who tallied three followed by Campbell, Pryor, and sophomore middle blocker
Paris Dixon each added two.
