Colonels Cross State Lines for Two League Contests

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University volleyball team will travel cross state lines to play Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday, Nov. 2 and Lamar on Saturday, Nov. 4.
 
NICHOLLS COURT (3-21, 1-13 SLC)
Last week, the Red & Gray were swept by the Southland standings leaders Southeastern and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Earlier this month, the Colonels picked up their first league win of the season against the Lions and fell in a 3-2 thriller against the Cardinals.
 
The Red & Gray have four individuals that have reached the century mark in kills this season.
 
Freshman outside hitter Autumn Perry leads the Colonels in kills (190), digs (143), and service aces (23). Her classmate Gracie Campbell is second on the team with 132 kills in just 11 matches.
 
Junior outside hitter Trinity Vinzant is second on the team in digs with 142 and third on the team with 119 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Paris leads the team in blocks with 61 and has 100 kills.
 
The Colonel attack is paced by a pair of setters. Junior Kendall Battistella has dished 355 assists and tallied 130 digs, while freshman Berra Soyler has 262 assists.
 
TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE (9-18, 5-9 SLC)
Last week the Lions fell in four sets to New Orleans and McNeese and after they face the Colonels on Thursday, they will host HCU on Saturday.
 
The Lions offense is led by Kitana Tuufuil who have 254 kills followed by Reese Fetty (193) and Essence Allen (150). The attack is run by setters Breann Connally (552 assists) and Peyton Plant (278 assists).
 
Defensively, the Lions are led by Jade Smith who has 457 digs followed by Reese with 188 and Millie Allgood has 185. In the middle, Deja Benjamin anchors the defense with 92 total blocks followed by Peyton Roper (55) and Avery Wilks (52).
 
LAMAR COURT (1-24, 1-14 SLC)
The Cardinals enter the weekend after being swept by Northwestern State and UIW. Also, before hosting the Colonels on Saturday, they will host the McNeese Cowgirls on Thursday.
 
Lamar's offense is spearheaded by Jordan Lyric who has 230 kills. Raisha Rhone and Wiktoria Warpechowska have tallied 164 and 146 kills, respectively.  Jo Moffit and Jodie Edmonds pace the attack with 543 assists and 169 assists.
 
Defensively, Kaeden Robinson leads the unit with 276 digs, followed by Freedomn Stephenson (194 digs), and Taisha Rhone (168). Warpechowska is a force in the middle with 67 blocks this season.
