FRISCO, Texas - Nicholls State University forward
Jamal West Jr. earned Southland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week following an impressive debut for the Colonels, as the league office announced Monday its weekly honors.
A native of Baltimore, West led Nicholls to a split in its matchups against Tulane and LSU after averaging 19.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in the two games. In his first contest with the Red and Gray at Tulane, West poured in 24 points on 9 of 12 from the field while adding seven rebounds and four assists. He then scored 14 in the Colonels' win over LSU and recorded his fourth assist on
Jalen White's last second game-winning three-pointer. West played all 40 minutes and his defense helped keep LSU under 40 percent from the field while also adding three steals.
For the week, West also stepped up at the free throw line by sinking 12 of 16.Â
UP NEXT
Nicholls will head to Mobile, Alabama to take part in the Jaguar Classic. Wednesday's opener against Denver is scheduled for 6 p.m.
