DALLAS, Texas – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team fell 69-54 to SMU inside the Moody Coliseum on Tuesday afternoon.
The first quarter was a defensive battle that saw the Colonels force seven turnovers and hold the Mustangs to 21.4% from the field to build an 11-7 advantage.
In the second, the Colonels were able to close out the half with an 8-0 run and holding the Mustangs scoreless for over three minutes to hold a 26-23 lead at the intermission.
In the third, a four-minute scoring drought by the Colonels allowed the Mustangs to build momentum hold a 48-34 lead after three quarters.
The Colonels went on a 10-0 run to start the fourth quarter and got as close as 48-42, but the Mustangs responded with a 27-12 run to close the game.
The Colonels had three individuals finished with double figure points.
Freshman guard
Betzalys Delgado stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points and a team high eight rebounds and eight assists.
Senior guard
Ashley Malone hit five of six shots from the charity stripe and finished with a team-high 13 points.
Sophomore forward
Lexi Alexander hit six of 13 field goals to score 12 points, whole junior forward
Deonna Brister had seven points and seven rebounds.
