THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University men's basketball team had five individuals record double figures en route to an 86-56 victory over Blue Mountain Christian University inside Stopher Gym on Tuesday night.
After a competitive first half that saw the Colonels up 11 at the intermission (37-26). The Red & Gray responded by shooting 52.78% from the field to run away from the visiting Toppers who shot just 34.38% for the half.
Sophomore guard
Michael Gray Jr. had a career-best 18 points while hitting an impressive 6-9 from long range. Also having six rebounds was junior guard
Robert Brown III who chipped in with 11 points and two assists.
Senior guard
Micah Thomas and junior forward tallied 16 points apiece. Thomas did most of his damage from beyond the arc (4-4), while West hit eight of his 10 field goal attempts. West added a team high five assists, eight rebounds, and three blocks.
Junior forward
Oumar Koureissi finished the contest with 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds to earn the first double-double of his career. He shot 8-11 from the charity stripe and tallied three blocks.
Seniors
Jalen White,
Taylor Blanchard, and
Quinn Strander combined for 11 points, 15 rebounds, and three assists.
Overall, the Red & Gray won the rebound margin 52-33, points in the paint 34-22, and 48.4% from the field and 43.3% from long range. The field goal percentage, 3-point percentage, and rebound total are all season highs for the Colonels.
