Colonel WBB set for GCU Classic

THIBODUAX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will travel to Phoenix, Arizona to compete in the GCU Classic hosted by Grand Canyon University. On Friday, Nov. 25 the Colonels will face Eastern Illinois and then battle GCU on Saturday, Nov. 26. The action against the Antelopes can be streamed via ESPN+.
 
NICHOLLS BENCH (3-2)
After securing the first 3-0 start in program history, the Colonels dropped their last two contest at SMU (69-54) and Louisiana (69-63).
 
Nicholls has a balanced offense that features six players that average at least 8 points per contest.
 
Leading the way is sophomore forward Lexi Alexander who averages 13.8 points and seven rebounds, followed by freshman guard Britiya Curtis who scores 12 points, grabs 5.4 rebounds, and claims 2.4 steals.
 
Senior guards Ashley Malone and Kyla Hamilton average 9.4 and 9.2 points, respectively. Freshman guard Betzalys Delgado and junior forward Donna Brister score 8.4 points apiece. Brister shoots a team best .552 from the field and Delgado stuffs the stat sheet with 6 assists and 6.8 boards.
 
Overall, the Colonels average 72.4 points while shooting .451 from the field and .271 from long range.
 
EASTERN ILLINOIS BENCH (1-2)
The Panthers fell to IUPUI (77-72) and No. 9 ranked Indiana and won their most previous game against Valparaiso (75-62).
 
EIU has three indivisuals that average double figure points. Lalani Ellis pours in 17 points per game while shooting .588 from the field and snagging seven rebounds.
 
Also averaging seven rebounds is Macy McGlone who also adds 12 points and shooting .556 from the field. Miah Monahan averages 10.3 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
 
Overall, the Panthers average 63.3 points while shooting .407 from the field and .200 from deep.
 
GCU BENCH (2-2)
The Antelopes began the season 2-2 after falling in their last two contest against Oregon (64-56) and Montana (76-71).
 
The GCU offense features two players that average double figure points. Naudia Evans averages 12.8 points while shooting .462 from long range. Trinity San Antonio also averages 12.8 points while bringing down 7.3 rebounds and dishing 6 assists.
 
Tiarra Brown averages 9.5 points and shoots an impressive .667 from beyond the arc. As a team GCU shoots .405 from the field, .356 from 3-point range and 63.8 points per contest.
