THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University men's basketball team will take on another ranked opponent Tuesday night as the Colonels face No. 9 Baylor for the second straight season. Tipoff in the Ferrell Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Nicholls will be looking for its first win against the Bears in four all-time meetings -- all coming since 2018. Baylor (6-0) is perfect on the season following its win over Florida in the NIT Season Tipoff.
Nicholls (3-4) had a road contest on Friday at No. 25 Mississippi State and was defeated 74-61 by the Bulldogs. Despite the loss,
Jamal West Jr. had his first double-double as a Colonel, totaling 17 points and 13 rebounds. The Baltimore native posted an outstanding week where he averaged a double-double with 16.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting an impressive 14 of 17 from the field (.824). West continues to be a force on both ends of the court for
Tevon Saddler's program, leading the team in scoring (18.5 ppg) and blocked shots (1.6).Â
The Colonels received a welcome addition to the lineup in the last contest as guard
Byron Ireland returned from injury for his first appearance. In 19 minutes, Ireland scored 10 points on 4 of 10 from the field and added four rebounds, two steals and an assist.Â
Baylor features the ninth-highest scoring offense in the NCAA at 90.5 points per game. The Bears have also been deadly from the three-point line, making 41 percent which ranks 10th in the nation.
BU is led on offense by Ja'Kobe Walter at 17.8 ppg. He is one of four starters averaging double figures with Langston Love coming off the bench for 11.7 points per contest.
