WACO, Texas - The Nicholls State University men's basketball team was unable to slow down the red-hot Baylor Bears as the Colonels were defeated 103-70 Tuesday night in the Ferrell Center.
Nicholls (3-5) hung close with the ninth-ranked Bears through 10 minutes, trailing 15-13, but the home team dominated the rest of the half by outscoring the Colonels 34-12. Nicholls put up 45 points in the second half, however, BU scored 58 for their first 100-point game of the season.
Robert Brown III scored 14 of his team-high 17 points in the first half, leading four Colonels in double figures.
Micah Thomas and
Byron Ireland came off the bench for 16 and 11 points, respectively, and
Jamal West Jr. totaled 15 and eight rebounds before fouling out. Nicholls was without its second-leading scorer,
Diante Smith.
The offense was held to 38 percent from the field and 8 of 25 from the three-point range, but missed just one free throw on 15 attempts. Baylor (7-0) scorched the nets at 57 percent shooting and made 14 three-pointers at 61 percent. The Bears also had a huge advantage in rebounding at 46-27.
Langston Love paced Baylor with a game-high 23 points while RayJ Dennis recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists.
