LORMAN, MS – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team fell to Alcorn State University 54-46 inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex on Thursday night.
The first half was a defensive battle which saw the Colonels shoot 30.4% and the Lady Braves shoot 34.4% from the field.
During the second quarter, the Colonels held the Lady Braves scoreless for nearly three minutes, but the Alcorn responded with a 7-0 run to close the quarter. Alcorn led 26-20 at the intermission.
The second half was also an offensive struggle as the teams combined to hit 16 field goals on 54 attempts. The last few minutes of the contest saw the teams trading free throws as the Colonels tried to extend the game by fouling.
Freshman guard
Britiya Curtis hit five of nine field goals including three of seven from beyond the arc and a pair of free throws to finish with a team-high 15 points. She also added two steals and one block to her stat line.
Senior guard
Traya Bruce hit two shots from deep and a layup to score eight points. Her classmate Makayla Etienne added five points and five rebounds. Sophomore forward
Lexi Alexander also score five points.
