THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls State University Head Track and Field Coach
Stefanie Slekis releases the 2024 Men's and Women's indoor and outdoor track and field schedule that features four indoor meets and five outdoor competitions.
The Colonels have three early-season indoor meets before the 2024 Southland Conference Indoor Championship. Two of the three early-season meets the Colonels will travel up to Baton Rouge, first for the LSU Purple Tiger on January 12 and then a little over a month later for the LSU Twilight on February 16. Between the LSU meets, the Colonels will head to Lake Charles for the McNeese Indoor Invite on January 25 - 26. The 2024 Southland Conference Championship will be held on February 25 - 26 in Birmingham, Alabama.
March 16 marks the start of the outdoor track season for the Red and Grey, kicking off competition in Lafayette at the Louisiana Classics, hosted by the University of Louisiana. The teams will then return to Baton Rouge for the LSU Keyth Talley Invitational before facing in-conference foes in Hammond at the Southeastern Strawberry Relays on April 12. The Colonels will travel out of state on April 20 for the J Fred Duckett Twilight meet in Houston, Texas hosted by Rice University. The season finally concludes for the squad on May 2 - 4, at the Outdoor Southland Conference Championship when the teams will journey to San Antonio Texas to compete for the Conference title.
Slekis shared her thoughts on the team for the upcoming season.
"The team is looking great this year. We are well-represented across many events and have great depth which has served us well during pre-season training. I'm excited to see how this unit performs at regular season competitions and of course the Championship."
Slekis spoke about the team's goals for the 2024 season.
"Our team goal is for everyone to set an individual personal best and then to try and rank in the Nicholls' All-Time and Southland Conference rankings. Then our focus is to out-perform individual rankings at the Southland Conference Championship while setting new personal bests."
