THIBODAUX, La. - For the final time in 2023, the Nicholls State University men's basketball team will take the court as the Colonels welcome the University of Mobile on Saturday, Dec. 30 for the final nonconference matchup of the season. Tipoff at Broussard Court in Stopher Gymnasium is set for 1 p.m.

Nicholls will be searching for its fifth win of the season, sitting at 4-8 overall, while Mobile has a 10-3 mark on the season. The game will count as an exhibition for the Rams, who compete at the NAIA level. 

The Colonels are looking to snap a two-game skid after dropping road games at Maryland and Towson before the holiday break. Nicholls fell to 2-6 in true road games but still have their perfect home record in tact at 2-0. The Red and Gray have home wins over Blue Mountain Christian and Elizabeth City State.

Nicholls and Mobile have played two common opponents this season -- South Alabama and Blue Mountain Christian. Mobile knocked off the Jaguars on the opening Monday of the season, 83-74, in an exhibition game. The Rams led the entire contest and by as much as 27 points before hanging on for the nine-point victory. Nicholls took on USA 10 days later and outlasted the Jaguars in triple overtime, helped by Jamal West Jr.'s 31 points. 

The Colonels faced BMCU for their home opener and won 86-56 behind a 49-point second half. Six players scored in double figures, led by a career-high 18 points by Michael Gray Jr. The Toppers hosted Mobile on Dec. 14 and picked up a 59-54 win over the Rams in a conference matchup.
