HAMMOND, La. - Freshman
Lexi Alexander registered her seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and 14 rebounds but the Nicholls State University women's basketball team dropped its eighth straight game with a 90-52 loss at Southeastern Saturday afternoon at the University Center.
Nicholls (4-19, 1-11 SLC) led early at 12-8 before Southeastern ended the first quarter with a 9-0 run. It was all Lady Lions from then on as they cruised to the 38-point victory.
Alexander continued her stellar rookie season and was joined in double figures by
Kyla Hamilton with 12 points. The Colonels were without their second leading scorer,
Deonna Brister, for the second straight game and also starting guard
Amelia Sandie. Starters
Traya Bruce made three 3-pointers while
Adrian Mann finished with eight points.Â
Southeastern (15-8, 10-3 SLC) moved into first place in the Southland standings by matching its season high of 90 points in the victory. The Lady Lions shot 51 percent and had five players score in double figures, led by Cierria Cunningham with 17 points.Â
The Colonels finished at 36 percent from the field and Bruce had the only buckets behind the arc as the team made 3 of 13 from long range. Playing shorthanded, Nicholls was outscored by SLU's bench, 29-2.Â

Nicholls returns home for its next three games, starting Thursday, Feb. 16 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Islanders defeated Nicholls on Jan. 26, 86-47, and are a game out of first place behind Southeastern. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
