Colonel Women's Tennis drops road contest at Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES, La. - The Nicholls State University women's tennis team came up short in its Saturday match against Northwestern State, falling 6-1 to the Lady Demons at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.

Northwestern State (10-8) won the doubles points before taking all five of their singles victories in straight sets.

In doubles, Constanza Cruz/Noemie Piquet were defeated 6-2 on the top line while Sarah Hamley/Laura Lopez lost 6-1

For the Colonels (9-13) in singles, Carla Bouygues came up with the victory at the No. 3 court. She dropped the first set against Paige Wise, 6-4, before knotting it up with a 7-5 victory in the second. With the match already decided, the two battled it out in a tiebreaker with Bouygues winning 10-8. 

Bouygues improved to 13-7 overall in singles and 4-2 in conference. 

For the rest of the singles lineup, Simona Maksimovic and Cruz fell on the top two courts, 6-2, 6-0, while Lopez dropped her match at No. 4, 6-4, 6-2. Piquet was defeated at 5, 6-1 in both sets, and Hamley fell 6-1, 6-2. 

UP NEXT
The regular season finale at Southeastern is TBA. The teams were scheduled to play last Thursday but it was postponed due to the weather.

Senior Day will be on Friday, April 14 before the men's match against Loyola New Orleans. The presentation is scheduled to start at 1:45 p.m. at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
