HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Nicholls State University volleyball team was beaten by Oral Roberts University 3-0 at the Bearkat Invitational inside Johnson Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
 
After Nicholls went up 12-10 in the first set, ORU scored seven unanswered points and used that momentum to win the first set 25-18.
 
In the second stanza, the Golden Eagles went on an eight-point scoring run and took nine of the last 10 points to win the set, 25-10. In the final frame, ORU utilized a 5-0 start and multiple scoring runs to win 25-13.
 
The Colonel attack was led by junior outside hitter Trinity Vinzant and sophomore middle blocker Paris Dixon who had four kills apiece. Freshmen outside hitters Addison Phares and Autumn Perry, and sophomore outside hitter Mackenzie Pryor each had three kills.
 
The offense was paced by a duo of setters. Freshman Berra Soyler (8) and junior Kendall Battistella (7) combined for 15 assists on 18 kills.
 
For the second match of the weekend, Perry recorded double figure digs, finishing with 11. Battistella added nine digs, while Dixon and freshman outside hitter Tierney Terrell claimed the only two blocks for the Colonels' defense.
 
ALL TOURNAMENT SELECTION
Perry was named to the All-Bearkat Invitational team for her impressive weekend to begin her collegiate career. She racked up 25 kills, 28 digs, and six service aces.
 
UP NEXT
Next weekend, the Red & Gray will travel to Nacogdoches, Texas to battle Southern Miss, Cal Poly, and Stephen F. Austin in a tournament hosted by SFA.
