THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University volleyball team will travel to Lafayette to compete against Louisiana and Prairie View A&M in the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball Classic.
The Colonels will battle the host Ragin' Cajuns on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. and the Panthers on Friday, Sept. 15 at noon inside Earl K. Long Gym.
NICHOLLS COURT (2-6)
Last weekend in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, the Red & Gray split a pair of matches in the Golden Eagle Classic, where they beat Mississippi Valley State and was clipped by host Southern Miss.
The Colonels are led by freshman outside hitter
Autumn Perry who has stuffed the stat sheet all season having a team high 68 kills, 67 digs, 18 blocks, and 10 service aces.
Junior outside hitter
Trinity Vinzant and sophomore middle blocker
Paris Dixon add 44 and 34 kills, while the offense is paced by junior setter
Kendall Battistella who has 98 assists and freshman
Berra Soyler who has 64.
Vinzant has registered a team-high 75 digs, while sophomore libero
Gabrielle Barth and Battistella add 60 and 59 digs for the unit. Dixon leads the team in blocks with 22 and senior middle blocker
Jhayla Bolden has 18 on the season.
LOUISIANA COURT (6-5)
The Ragin' Cajuns enter the weekend after posting a 2-1 record in the North Florida Invitational where they beat Charlotte and Texas Southern and fell to UNF.
Louisiana's offense paced by setter Siena DeCambra is led by Shyia Richardson and Celeste Darling who have 125 and 104 kills, respectively. Their defense is anchored by Kennedy Gustafson and Mio Yamamoto who leads the team in digs with 128 and 124.
PVAMU COURT (3-8)
Last week, the Panthers dropped matches to Weber State, Tulane, and fellow Southland Conference foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before falling to Tarleton State.
The Panthers' offense is led by a trio of attackers. Kylee Owens leads the unit with 134 kills and 11 service aces, while Leila Smalls and Nyah Walker have registered 89 and 82 kills thus far.
Their defense features three induvials with more than 20 blocks. Janyah Henderson leads the way with 24 blocks, followed by Kiersten Atkinson (22), and Walker (21). Jaqueline Nino paces the team with 159 digs, followed by Leah Lawson (104), and Owens (99).
