Colonel VB Hits the Road for Golden Eagle Classic

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University volleyball team will travel to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to take on Mississippi Valley State and Southern Miss in the Golden Eagle Classic inside the Southern Miss Wellness Center on Friday, Sept. 8.

First, the Colonels will battle the Devilettes at 3 p.m. and then play the Golden Eagles at 7 p.m. The match against Southern Miss will be streamed on ESPN+.

COLONELS COURT (1-5)

Last weekend, the Colonels were beaten by SFA, Cal Poly and Southern Miss. Junior setter Kendall Battistella was named to the All-SFA Tournament team for dishing out double figure assists in each match and recording a double-double against SFA.

The Red & Gray is led by outside hitter's freshman Autumn Perry and junior Trinity Vinzant who have been stout two-way players. Perry leads the squad with 49 kills and 59 digs, while Vinzant has 37 kills and 54 digs. Additionally, Perry sits atop the SLC in service aces with 10.

The Colonel defense is anchored by middle blockers sophomore Paris Dixon and senior Jhayla Bolden who have both registered 15 blocks. Sophomore libero Gabrielle Barth and Battistella has tallied 49 and 47 digs apiece.

MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE COURT (2-3)

MVSU comes into the matchup after sweeping Lane College and LeMoyne-Owen College.

The Devilettes offense is spearheaded by Torre Giron and Michala Black who have tallied 19 and 15 kills, respectively. Mikayla Lee leads the team in assists with 64 while Ashlynn Hawkins and Giron anchor the defense with 31 and 30 digs.

SOUTHERN MISS COURT (1-5)

Southern Miss competed in the SFA tournament last weekend where they fell to Cal Poly and SFA before picking up their lone victory against Nicholls.

The Golden Eagles' attack is spearheaded by Mia Wesley who has the second most kills (97) in the Sunbelt Conference and is one of four individuals in the SBC who average more than four kills per set (4.04).

The Red & Gray will conclude non-conference play by competing against Louisiana and Prairie View A&M in the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball Classic hosted the Ragin' Cajuns on Sept. 14-15.
