THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team's comeback fell short to begin Southland Conference play as they loss 66-56 to Southeastern University inside Stopher Gym on Thursday night.
In the first half, Southeastern was able to put together a 16-2 run that allowed them build a lead and hold a 33-22 advantage at the intermission.The Colonels responded by winning the third frame 25-14 to tie the action at 47 apiece going into the fourth.
Despite hitting seven of eight free throws in the fourth, the Red & Gray offense went ice cold in the final quarter as they hit only one field goal (1-8). The Lady Lions finished the quarter with seven made field goals.
Senior guard
Mikayla Etienne led the Colonels with a season-best 16 points and five rebounds in her first start of the season. She hit six field goals including four from long range to match her career high.
Sophomore forward
Lexi Alexander also scored 16 points while shooting a perfect eight for eight from the charity stripe. She also had three assists and four rebounds.
Senior guard
Kyla Hamilton played all 40 minutes and stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, three assists, and three steals. Junior forward
Daelyn Craig registered a season-high 10 rebounds.
