CINCINNATI, Ohio - Playing for the second time in as many nights, the Nicholls State University men's basketball team could not keep pace with No. 17 Cincinnati as the Colonels fell 86-49 Friday night at Fifth Third Arena.
The loss dropped Nicholls to 2-3 on the season while Cincinnati improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 for the all-time series.Â
The Bearcats never trailed in the game but it wasn't until a 12-2 run midway through the first half that they saw a double digit lead. UC then ended the half outscoring Nicholls 12-2 again for a commanding 42-22 lead.
The run carried over into the second half as Cincinnati scored the first 13 points. The margin stayed in the 30s the rest of the way.
Nicholls was held to 30 percent from the field with UC blocking 14 shots.
Jamal West Jr. led the Colonels with 12 points while adding six rebounds and had three blocks of his own.
Robert Brown III made three of Nicholls' four three-pointers and
Trae English added eight points and four assists off the bench.
UC was led by Jizzle James and Simas Lukosius with 19 points each. The Bearcats shot 54 percent and made 11 of 27 from behind the arc.Â
