Colonel VB Complete Three Match Home Swing on Tuesday Night

THIBODAUX, La – The Nicholls State University volleyball team wrapped up a three-game home stand was beaten by Southeastern (3-1), Texas A&M-Commerce (3-1) and McNeese (3-0).
 
GAME ONE: Nicholls (1) vs Southeastern (3) (25-23, 14-25, 12-25, 18-25)
 
The Colonels go out to a strong start and took the first set 25-23 behind 13 kills (.171). The Colonels lost their offensive rhythm in the next three sets as the Lady Lions built momentum to take the match.
 
The Red & Gray offense was spearheaded by Leah Linares Castro who had 13 kills followed by Tierney Terrell (11) and Olivia Lunt (7). The offense was paced by setter Evelyn Trivino Espinosa who dished out 37 assists.
 
The Colonel defense was anchored by libero Kenley Nonato who had 19 digs. Ava-Claire Calais added 10 digs while Terrell had eight.
 
GAME TWO: Nicholls (1) vs Texas A&M – Commerce (3) (26-28, 25-22, 13-25, 18-25)
 
The Colonels started the game strong hitting .182 and .225 in the first two sets. However, the unit lost the offensive momentum and hit .133 and .129 in the final two stanzas.
 
The offense was paced by Espinosa who tallied 38 assists. Castro led the attack with 19 kills followed by Terrell and Lunt who registered nine apiece.
 
The defense was anchored by Nonato who claimed a match high 22 digs while Calais and Terrell added 13 and 10, respectively. In the middle, Gamble had four blocks to lead the Colonels.
 
GAME THREE: Nicholls (0) vs McNeese (3) (17-25, 20-25, 19-25)
 
On Tuesday, the Colonels' offense hit .149 and totaled 36 kills in the matchup with the Cowgirls who hit .278 from the floor.
 
The Colonel offense was paced by Espinosa who dished 24 assists. Terrell posted her fifth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs while hitting .333 from the floor. Castro also tallied 10 kills while Gamble had six from the middle.
 
Defensively, Nonato anchored the unit with 17 digs. Espinosa had nine digs while Gamble and Castro combined for six blocks at the net.

The Red & Gray will cross state lines for the final time this season to take on Lamar in Beaumont, Texas on Thursday, Nov. 7 and SFA in Nacogdoches on Saturday, Nov. 9.
