FRISCO, Texas - Nicholls State University men's basketball guard Michael Gray Jr. has been named Southland Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Gray logged his first two starts of the season and averaged 16.5 points on 7 of 14 from three-point range. Gray caught fire in the second half in the 76-75 win at Louisiana, scoring all 19 of his points which included five triples as Nicholls erased a 15-point deficit in its first win against UL since 1988.

Earlier in the week, Gray scored 14 points in the blowout win over Mississippi College. 

In the two victories, Gray shot .563 from the field, made 8 of 10 at the free throw line, and totaled six rebounds and three steals.

Nicholls will open SLC play this week with two home games, starting Thursday, Dec. 5 against Southeastern. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
