Thibodaux, La. -- The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will make the short trip to New Orleans to battle UNO inside the Lakefront Arena on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m.
Last week the Colonels (11-12, 5-6 SLC) split contests with two Texas foes. First, they beat Texas A&M-Corpus Christ (70-67) at home. The Red & Gray then had their three-game winning streak snapped in Beaumont against Lamar (44-70).
The Colonels are led by sophomore forward
Lexi Alexander who averaged 18.5 points and 5.5 rebounds last week, including a 21-point performance in the victory over the Islanders.
Freshman guard
Britiya Curtis averages 9.5 points while shooting over 40% from the field and a team-best 39% from long range. Her field goal percentages rank 16th and 3rd in the SLC.
Senior guards
Kyla Hamilton and
Mikayla Etienne average 8.6 and 7.4 points per contest. Hamilton also paces the offense with three assists and leads the defense with 1.7 steals per game.
UNO (9-14, 6-6 SLC) enters the week after splitting two road league games last week. First, they beat Northwestern State (80-57) before falling to Texas A&M-Commerce (78-84) in overtime.
The Privateers are led by DeArica Pryor who earned her second SLC Player of the Week honor after she had 22 points, five rebounds and four assists in the win over the Lady Demons. She followed that game up with an impressive 32-point, 13 rebound performance in the loss to the Lions.
Jayla Kimbrough is the second leading scorer (10) while shooting 46.6% from the field. Zoe Cooper leads the team in rebounds (5.6) and Alexis Calderon paces the unit in assists (2.3).
