THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will play its final two home games of the season against UIW (Feb. 22) and Texas A&M-Commerce (Feb.24).
Tipoff against the Cardinals will be at 6:30 p.m. and the game against the Lions will begin at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed via ESPN+.
Last week, Nicholls (12-13, 6-7 SLC) clinched a postseason berth with an 81-67 victory over McNeese. UIW (15-9, 8-5 SLC) enters the match up on a three-game win streak after beating Texas A&M-Commerce and Northwestern State last week. The Lions (11-13, 6-8 SLC) dropped games to UIW and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last week.
The Colonels are spearheaded by sophomore forward
Lexi Alexander who resisted two double doubles last week to raise her averages to 13.4 points and 5.8 rebounds. Freshman guard
Britiya Curtis is the one the most efficient scorers in the SLC as she averages 10.3 points while shooting .417 from the field and .387 from beyond the arc.
Senior guard
Kyla Hamilton stuffs the stat sheet with 9.3 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. Her classmate
Mikayla Etienne averages 8.1 points and has hit three triples in each of the last two contests.
Nicholls won the first matchup against the Cardinals (65-59) behind a 19-point explosion from junior forward
Deonna Brister. While the Colonels fell to the Lions (67-71) in their trip to Commerce.
UIW is led by Aliyah Collins who averages 12.9 points while shooting .417 from the field. Nina De Leon Negron, reigning SLC Player of the Week, averages 10.8 points and team-best 6.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists.
Texas A&M-Commerce has four individuals who average at least 11 points. Mia Deck leads the way with 15, followed by Mary Delgado (13.3), Jordyn Newsome (12.8), and Ahmya Boyce (11.5). Olivia Russell leads the team with 6.3 rebounds per game and Delgado leads them in assists per game (2.9).
