THIBODAUX, La. - The Nicholls State University women's and men's tennis teams both secured a fifth straight win as the Colonels defeated Southern University Tuesday afternoon at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex.
The men's team earned a 4-0 victory while the women won theirs 4-1.Â
On the men's side, Southern had just four players so after winning the doubles point, Nicholls needed only one singles victory to claim the team win.

Kotaro Matsumura and
Antonio Sasso/Daniel Banov made quick work of Southern in doubles with 6-0 and 6-1 wins.
After winning courts 5 and 6 in singles by default, Sasso clinched the match with a shutout at No. 4.
For the women, the doubles point came down to the top court as Colonels
Aada Inna and
Lea Grinberg outlasted Southern's Kai Wince/Parish Washington in a tiebreaker, winning 7-6 (8-6).
Carla Bouygues and
Constanza Cruz at No. 2, 6-2, while Aana Inna and
Liu QianYu were defeated 6-3.
In singles competition, Sara Sophia Safarova won in straight sets at No. 2 before the Lady Jaguars claimed a point as LaTesha Grant defeated Cruz. Inna needed a tiebreaker to win her first set at No. 5 but cruised in the second set with a 6-1 victory.
The final three matches went into three sets. QianYu clinched the match with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 win on the top line. Bouygues and Grinberg's courts went unfinished.
UP NEXT
The women's team begins Southland Conference play this weekend by hosting Lamar on Saturday. The men return to the courts next Thursday (March 7) against Tennessee State.
